2013 Season Returns To the Borough, New Slam Launched and More….

Dear Friends of West Chester Story Slam –

The 2012 season was memorable in so many ways. I still find myself recalling the many excellent stories we’ve shared throughout the year. From talking with many of you, it’s clear we each have our favorite tales. One of the highlights of the season was learning that Main Line Today had awarded West Chester Story Slam the title of “Best Entertaining Night Out!” Once again, the audience for our November Grand Slam swelled beyond our expectations. We estimate over one hundred and sixty people tried to attend the Grand Slam and we simply did not have enough space.

In order to continue moving our storytelling community forward, I’ve been working on three key changes for the 2013 season. First – we’re thrilled that the West Chester Story Slam is returning to the borough of West Chester. Second – we are launching a second monthly event, the Delco Story Slam, in nearby Newtown Square. Finally, instead of “passing the hat,” the story slams will now be ticketed events. We’re encouraging you to reserve your tickets before the day of the slam as space is limited.

Here’s details on each of our changes:

Returning to West Chester
Our 2013 season will be held at Side Bar and Restaurant, which is well known for having the most extensive craft beer list in the borough. The second floor of Side Bar & Restaurant hosts live music several nights each week. Long-time local residents may remember when the space was Vincent’s, which was known for their jazz and blues acts. At this venue, we will have 60 reserved seats and standing room for approximately 25 more in the bar area. To check out our schedule, click here.

Launching Delco Story Slam
We are also thrilled to be launching the Delco Story Slam! The 2013 season of the Delco Story Slam will be held at Newtown Square’s Burlap and Bean. We recently held a story slam at this amazing coffeehouse and had a blast. Burlap and Bean not only offers the best coffee, lattes and hot chocolates around, but they are also a BYOB for their nighttime events. To check out the the Delco Story Slam schedule, click here. For Delco Story Slam updates, like us on Facebook or Twitter.

Starting a Reservation/Cover Charge
With these changes, we are now able to sell tickets for both venues and are instituting a cover charge. For the West Chester Story Slam at Side Bar, click here to order tickets. For the Delco Story Slam at Burlap and Bean, reservations can be taken through their events page. Tickets at both venues are $8 with advance purchase or $10 night of show.

One more note about our Grand Slams. Over the past three years, we’ve consistently seen a huge spike in attendance for the event of the year – our Grand Slam. If you have attended a Grand Slam, you understand why – it’s become the storytelling party of the year! For the 2013 season, we’re going to explore the possibility of holding the Grand Slam in a larger venue that is worthy of the celebration. Stay tuned for more details.

Thanks again for supporting local storytelling. We look forward to seeing you in 2013!

Sincerely,

Jim Breslin
